The Tonelli hive is dedicated to beekeepers / experimenters who love to rediscover the experiences of the brilliant bee observers who preceded us. The inventor is Mr. Alessandro Tonelli who invented it in 1901 and presented it in 1911 at the exhibitions in Turin, Rome and Florence on the occasion of the "Fiftieth anniversary of the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy".
It is normally called a "heart-shaped hive" because the inventor wanted to recreate a dress for the honeycombs that bees spontaneously make in nature when they are not forced by us to fill the squared frames.
Made of wood and metal only, the super is built in full respect of bees because no glues, resins or paints that are toxic or harmful to bees are used. The supers are assembled using only screws or nails and the paint that covers only the external part is water-based paint.The internal part is not painted in order not to pollute the internal environment of the super. The spacers of the frames are made of metal, and the structure is solid to withstand over time.
The supers for the Tonelli Lega hive are made with Dadant standard sizes, in order to adapt perfectly to all the components of the hives and not to create empty spaces between the surfaces.
